đą Behind the scenes #7 with Valentina Parigi from the Sorbonne University team!
𧹠Valentina, what is your role in the Veriqub project? And what are you currently working on?
I am part of the Sorbonne University team in Paris, working in VeriQuBâs Work Package 4 on continuous variable (CV) quantum optics. I co-lead the implementation of experimental platforms where we test and verify quantum optical systems using both near-infrared and telecom wavelengths.

đšâđ What is your background?
Since my PhD, I have worked in quantum optics, both in theory and experiment. In recent years, as a professor, my research has focused on multimode quantum optics structured as quantum complex networks for quantum information technologies, particularly through the ERC Consolidator Grant COQCOoN (funding supporting researchers who are at a stage in their careers where they are consolidating their own independent research team or program). The term âQuantum computing architectures with bosonsâ was conceptually formulated while I was already working in the field. Previously, we more commonly referred to it as âContinuous Variable Quantum Computingâ.
đ„ What are the aspects youâre most excited about Veriqub?
I’m particularly excited about the collaboration and knowledge exchange between quantum computing theorists and experimentalists working with two fundamentally different technologies: quantum optics and superconducting systems. This interdisciplinary approach provides the ideal framework for meaningful progress.
đ What is the one thing that you need in your daily work routine?
Iâm tempted to say âcoffee,â but in reality, what I truly need is regular short discussions with different team members. These conversations help ensure that everyone is aligned, knows our direction, and feels good about their work.
đ¶ââïžIs there any activity that helps you release stress after a hard week at work?
To release stress, I need both physical activity and artistic expression. Contemporary and modern dance allow me to combine these two aspects, taking advantage of the rich and diverse dance scene in Paris. And I love mountains! These pictures represent wonderful breaks during the Les Houches Summer School I have co-organized last year.
