📢 Behind the scenes #9 with Rui Wang from the Chalmers University team!
🧢 Rui, what is your role in the Veriqub project? And what are you currently working on?
My work in the VeriQuB project focuses on intersection of quantum resource theory and bosonic codes. I aim to understand how the availability and cost of quantum resources affect the performance and practicality of bosonic error correction codes in continuous-variable quantum computing. Specifically, I explore how measures of non-Gaussianity can serve as operational resources that determine both the computational power and the experimental feasibility of bosonic platforms. By developing theoretical frameworks that connect these concepts with real-world implementations, I hope to identify resource-efficient strategies for building scalable and fault-tolerant bosonic quantum systems within the VeriQuB project.
👨‍🎓 What is your background?
I studied physics for my Master degree in China, where I specialized in the theory of quantum computation. My first encounter with “quantum computing architectures with bosons” came through my Master’s research project, which focused on boson sampling. In that work, I explored how the photonic pattern in a boson sampling setup can be used for quantum state estimation. This experience sparked my interest in continuous-variable quantum systems and shaped my current research perspective. It also gave me a theoretical foundation to contribute to the Veriqub project, particularly in understanding the mathematical structure underlying bosonic encodings.
💥 What are the aspects you’re most excited about Veriqub?
I am most excited about how the project bridges theory and experiment to realize practical quantum technologies based on continuous variable systems. The possibility of connecting quantum resource theory with real-world implementations.
📝 What is the one thing that you need in your daily work routine?
Some quiet time to think alone. Having uninterrupted moments for deep reflection helps me organize my ideas and find creative solutions to complex problems.
🚶‍♂️Is there any activity that helps you release stress after a hard week at work?
I like to stay active through exercise and cooking. These activities help me clear my mind and regain focus after a busy week.
